On Christian Discipleship Courses Within the UK
A vital issue for numerous students is what to do in their gap year between school/college and uni, or even the period after graduating. Although travel is the popular choice, there are further choices to consider, like volunteer work, or to immerse yourself in a christian discipleship course for 11 months with the organization DNA (dna-uk.org). This article explores in greater detail this latter option.
DNA offer placements in Christian churches, running from October to August. This is seen as a “year in with God, not a year out.”, requiring the enrollee to live in a Christian surrounding – either in your own church if you presently attend one, or a designated church if you’re not presently a fellow member of a church. Your typical day will require helping out with the day to day projects of the church, and to be coached by its fellow members in bible studies. The course assures faith in action, so those who join can expect a rather practical experience of living their faith, and not merely the theoretical study.
More advantages of the studies include:-
- helping 18 year olds and older, as there’s no age limit (they’ve trained people in their 60s!)
- faith in action; what you’ll learn is what you’ll do
- your growth in skills, understand and character
- dependence on the person and power of the Holy Spirit in and through you
- providing an accredited programme via the National Open College Network
There are three types of course available : Track 1 is the most popular entry point to DNA – it is the richest DNA expereince. The overwhelming majority of people choose this as the best option for them. Track 2 is more acceptable to you if taking a whole gap year is not pragmatically feasible. This could be for reasons like work or family commitments. Track 2 thus provides some tractability. Track 3 provides people the opportunity of coming in to be with us for as many specific training sessions or days as they wish.
