LTE Loses the Battle but May Win the War: Juniper Research

The fight for the top position in the mobile broadband technology is getting more heated by the day. WiMax may have won the battle but LTE will win the war says Juniper Research, a technology and communications market analyst. Both the technologies are currently competing aggressively to lead the next stage of mobile broadband communication.

WiMax has won the first battle as it has come into operation before LTE. Clearwire, a WiMax service provider is ready to start the service in ten new regions of the USA including areas in Washington, Idaho and Texas. The company aims to bag at least 1.6 million subscribers for its technology immediately after the launch. By 2010, the company aims to reach 120 million customers.

WiMax will already have more than a 100 million potential users by the time LTE is launched by Verizon Wireless next year. The fact that LTE is yet to make its mark while WiMax is already spreading its wings, will definitely help the latter.

However, according to Juniper Research, LTE will grow larger than WiMax by 2014. Analysts say within five years, it will generate much more revenue in comparison to WiMax, even though it will start one and a half years later in the US.
