Monkey See, Monkey Do
Anyone with kids will tell you monkey see, monkey do is a natural human instinct to mimic the actions of other people. While it is cute in kids, it is not cute in poker online players. This fits into the whole idea that poker online players should act like adults, a concept that many people seem to forget. I understand, I really do, that you would want to be like the famous poker stars. Everyone wants their skills at the table, let alone their bank accounts. But poker is not Halloween, so do not mimic your favorite poker genius too closely.
This means no hoods at the table. While we are at it, you can go ahead and leave those sunglasses behind too. You are playing indoors; there is very little chance that you will actually need them. Don’t pretend to be Phil Laak, Phil Helmuth, or Phil Ivey. They have distinct playing styles and looks. If you copy them, you just end up looking like a fool. No one will take you serious if you are playing dress up at the table. They will just take advantage of your luck of self confidence. The only thing that you should emulate is their poker online skills; leave their wardrobe decisions at home.
